Product Overview

Acyclonine MUM is a dental powder that has been used to manage pain that may arise from mouth ulcerations or lesions. It contains three active ingredients: acyclovir, triamcinolone and dyclonine.

Acyclovir1-5

Acyclovir is an antiviral medication that is used to slow the spread of herpes virus (herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2). It can be administered topically and orally for viruses that are common near or in the mouth

Triamcinolone Acetonide1-5

Triamcinolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid (steroid) that is slightly more potent than prednisone. It is used to manage inflammatory or pruritic conditions by preventing the release of substances that stimulate inflammation in the body. It is absorbed well in the mucosal membranes in the mouth and has a half-life of 3 to 5 hours.

Dyclonine HCl1-5

Dyclonine is a local anesthetic agent used especially to relieve pain in the mouth or throat from sores or inflammation.

Acyclovir1-5

Acyclovir works to stop replication of herpes viral DNA after the drug becomes phosphorylated. Acyclovir is phosphorylated by cellular enzymes to the active triphosphate form. It is this activated form that inhibits herpes viral replication by 1) competitively inhibiting viral DNA polymerase, 2) incorporation and termination of the viral DNA chain, and 3) inactivation of the viral DNA polymerase.

Triamcinolone Acetonide1-5

The anti-inflammatory effects of triamcinolone are thought to act through inhibitory proteins called lipocortins. Lipocortins are thought to work against prostaglandins and leukotrienes which are produced from the precursor molecule arachidonic acid.

Dyclonine HCl1-5

Dyclonine blocks the initiation and conduction of sodium ions through protein channels in nerves. This activity stabilizes nerve impulse and prevents an action potential from being propagated.
