Product Overview

Ondansetron Tablets Description1,2

Ondansetron, a 5-HT₃ receptor antagonist, that is used clinically as an antiemetic. It prevents and treats nausea and vomiting specifically for patients on chemotherapy, receiving radiation or after surgery or after a medical procedure.

Mechanism of Action1,2

Serotonin (5-HT₃) receptors are found in the gastrointestinal tract and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) in the brain. Ondansetron prevents serotonin from binding to serotonin receptors in the gastrointestinal tract and the chemoreceptor trigger zone. By preventing serotonin from binding to these receptors, it inhibits vomiting reflexes, specifically when chemotherapy, radiation, and anesthesia is administered.
