Product Overview

Testosterone Cypionate_DHEA Injection Description 1-7

Testosterone cypionate_DHEA is a combination of the steroid hormone testosterone and precursor hormone dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).

Tesosterone Cypionate_DHEA Injection is a compounded injectable product used for testosterone replacement when there is a decline in testosterone levels as seen with hypogonadism and to support energy, mood and sexual health.

Testosterone cypionate is a long-acting testosterone ester. It has a half-life of 8 days.3,4 Testosterone that has not been esterified has a half-life of as short as 10 minutes. Thus, the esterification process increases the half-life dramatically.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is an endogenous steroid hormone produced primarily in the adrenal cortex, with minor synthesis in the gonads and brain. It serves as a precursor to both androgens and estrogens, including testosterone and estradiol. DHEA levels naturally decline with age, and supplementation is used for age-related hormone decline, adrenal insufficiency, mood support, and sexual health.

Mechanism of Action1-7

Testosterone Cypionate is an esterified form of testosterone. The ester extends the duration of action and is useful for less frequent, intramuscular, or subcutaneous injections. Once administered, the ester is cleaved, releasing free testosterone into the bloodstream. Testosterone then binds to androgen receptors in various tissues, exerting anabolic and androgenic effects. These effects may include the development and maintenance of male secondary sexual characteristics, stimulation of muscle and bone growth, and regulation of libido and mood.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a prohormone, meaning its physiological effects are largely mediated through conversion to active androgens (like testosterone) and estrogens (like estradiol).

Endocrine effects:

  • In peripheral tissues, DHEA is converted to androstenedione, then to testosterone, estrone, and estradiol via tissue-specific enzymes such as 3β-HSD, 17β-HSD, aromatase.

Neurosteroid activity:

  • DHEA may interact with GABA-A and NMDA receptors, contributing to its neuromodulatory, antidepressant, and anxiolytic properties.
