Testosterone Cypionate in Grapeseed Oil Injection Description1-6
Testosterone cypionate is a long-acting testosterone ester used in testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to treat male hypogonadism. Testosterone that has not been esterified has a half-life of as short as 10 minutes. Testosterone cypionate has a half-life of 8 days. Thus, the esterification process increases the half-life dramatically and it also increases the solubility of the testosterone in oil. Testosterone cypionate in oil provides a more stable and sustained release of testosterone, potentially reducing the frequency of injections and minimizing fluctuations in hormone levels. The oils used pharmaceutically as a vehicle for the testosterone cypionate include cottonseed oil, sesame oil and grapeseed oil. The testosterone can be injected into the muscle or subcutaneously under the skin. Grapeseed oil is thought to be less viscous and less inflammatory than other oils used.
Mechanism of Action1,6
Testosterone cypionate and testosterone enanthate are both esterified forms of testosterone. The esterification occurs on the 17b carbon of the testosterone structure. The esters extend the duration of action and are useful for less frequent, intramuscular, or subcutaneous injections. Once administered, the esters are cleaved, releasing free testosterone into the bloodstream. Testosterone then binds to androgen receptors in various tissues, exerting anabolic and androgenic effects. These effects may include the development and maintenance of male secondary sexual characteristics, stimulation of muscle and bone growth, and regulation of libido and mood.
