Product Overview

Phendimetrazine Tartrate Description1,2

Phendimetrazine, a stimulant of the sympathetic central nervous system, is used as an anorectic. It is a schedule III-controlled substance.  The drug closely mimics amphetamine in activity and structure. The drug has been approved since 1959. It is FDA approved for the following indication:

In the management of exogenous obesity as a short-term adjunct (a few weeks) in a regimen of weight reduction based on caloric restriction in patients with an initial body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m or higher who have not responded to appropriate weight reducing regimen (diet and/or exercise) alone.

Mechanism of Action1,2

Phendimetrazine predominantly acts in the central nervous system (CNS), within the hypothalamus and limbic systems, where it works on appetite regulation. It stimulates the release of norepinephrine and dopamine from the nerve, and its reuptake is inhibited. The increased norepinephrine may decrease hunger through a reduction in hungry messaging.
