Gonadorelin Injection Description1-5
Gonadorelin is a synthetic decapeptide that has the same amino acid sequence as the naturally produced gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). Both compounds are made up of 10 amino acids arranged in a specific sequence: pyro-Glu-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH2.
Clinically, it is used as a diagnostic agent after pituitary surgery. In males FSH and LH stimulate testosterone production and sperm production. In females, FSH and LH regulate the menstrual cycle and ovulation. The half-life of gonadorelin ranges from 2 to 40 minutes.
Mechanism of Action1-5
GnRH is made in the hypothalamus and functions to stimulate the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary. This increase in FSH and LH may stimulate the production and release of testosterone by the male testes and estrogen by the female ovaries and placenta.
